The A Word.
No, not that ‘A’ word (for those PLL fans out there) – Anxiety.
I’ve struggled with anxiety for a while now. I can’t remember exactly what set it off but coping with it on a daily/weekly/monthly basis on and off is something I’m continuously trying to curb. I’ve read so many blogger experiences with it and it’s comforting to know I’m not the only one.
Today I felt anxious.
I was indoors and felt claustrophobic, I needed to get out of the house before I could start to panic and worry. Fresh air is a wonderful thing, taking a short walk and listening to your favourite music really helps (I’m obsessed with the Nashville soundtrack from all three seasons, if only I could sing like Connie Britton & co!) It vanished for a few hours whilst I was out running errands and grabbing coffee, but returned by dinner time.
One thing I do which always helps numb the anxiety feeling is reading positive quotes. I have a desk calendar where you tear off a quote each day of the year and every one is a sentence oozing encouragement and good affirmations. A few months ago I decided I would start writing my favourite ones in a book, creating pages of positivity and something I can turn to when I feel crap, basically.
Reading books help me to escape ‘reality’ for a while, I’m currently reading this one by M G Callahan about three women pursuing their dreams in New York, and I also find watching trashy reality shows always make you feel slightly better about your life (Made in Chelsea LA started tonight, woo!). I’m making a conscious effort to turn my phone onto airplane mode too when I’m having a bad day, especially in the evenings and before bed time. This tip however is difficult, particularly for bloggers!
These aren’t long-term solutions in the slightest and there are so many other solutions but for half an hour or so these three work a treat in my experience. If you are reading this and struggle with anxiety too, I hope this helps 🙂
