It’s been a while since I’ve sat down to write a beauty post. In fact, I don’t think I’ve written one since June – so it’s long overdue! There have been quite a few beauty favourites this month that I’ve wanted to share on the blog, and apart from two ‘holy grail’ products, they’re all new discoveries too.
Starting with a product that I’ve used and loved for years – the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner.
This eyeliner is SO good! I’ve been using it on and off for years and have recently fallen back in love with it. The application is smooth and lasts all day without having to reapply, compared to some other liners I’ve tried. I’m still loyal to my Soap & Glory Supercat Liner, of course, it’s a firm favourite in my makeup collection and sits nicely in my handbag for on-the-go touch ups. I’m no expert by any means, but this pot of black gel liner sure makes it a lot easier!
Another long-term favourite is the Ralph Lauren Romance perfume, my signature scent. I’ve been wearing it for years and always try to keep a bottle in my collection, so when my friend Sophie was in Boston recently, I asked her to pick up the roller-ball for me (only stocked in Sephora, as far as I’m aware!) It’s the perfect size to throw into your handbag or to take with you on your travels, and they last longer than you might expect them to – I still have my Stella McCartney perfume from over a year ago. Definitely worth investing in a couple when you see them, especially if you have the full size bottle.
This gorgeous No 7 eyeshadow palette is my current go-to for every day. Up until a couple of years ago I rarely wore eyeshadow, and now I can’t imagine not wearing it most days. While I’m still playing it brave with the shades I choose (I’m a brown and gold kinda gal), I’m definitely upping my game in the palette stakes. I own so many now that they have to live in their own little box, but this gorgeous glittery gold one has stayed out for the last month. It has all the colours you need for a day to night look, and I’m desperate to find a way to use the light and deep blue shades. They have great longevity without any fallout (from personal experience), and it’s the perfect travel size too.
If you’ve been following the blog for a while, you’ll know my admiration for Tanya Burr Cosmetics goes way back. Ever since her first lip gloss and nail polish collection, I’ve been a fan, so when I saw her new range of lipsticks I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one!
There was a lot of hype around the shade Pink Cocoa, a perfect every day nude pink, and every time I attempted to purchase one it was sold out. Luckily, it happened to be the week of my birthday and by chance I browsed the Superdrug website and it was in stock! A couple of days later it arrived and within seconds (literally) I had tried it on and became obsessed with it. The only negative is that if you happen to have dry lips (which lets face it, most of us have in winter), the lipstick doesn’t feel very moisturising. I’ve been applying a lip balm underneath to avoid it clinging to those dry areas which does help.
Another new discovery for 2017 has been Essie Maximillian Strasse Her nail polish, a beautiful duck egg blue shade which I’d been eyeing up on Lily Pebbles‘ nails for ages! It’s now a staple in my collection and no doubt I’ll be wearing it a lot over the next few months. I’d highly recommend the Essie Gel Setter Top Coat too if you want a long-lasting finish.
My friend Hana introduced me to the Nyx Dewy Finish Setting Spray just before Christmas, with a warning that I will be become obsessed with it. She was right, it’s amazing. Not only does it make your makeup last longer (very important), but it leaves your skin looking fresh and glowy. I have combination skin and felt slightly dubious that it would work any magic, but I’m so impressed with the results. For under £10, it’s a great alternative to the more expensive ones on the market and from what I’ve heard – even better!
Last but not least, this set of Ted Baker lipsticks.
Now, I know I have enough lipsticks but none that look as pretty as these. There’s a nude, a pretty pink, a bright fuschia, a fiery orange, a deep red and a bold berry shade, all wrapped up in gorgeous white and gold packaging. I wore the darkest colour on my birthday night out and it lasted almost all evening without having to reapply it, despite a lot of eating and drinking – impressive! I can’t seem to find it online so it may be a limited edition set, but it’s worth checking eBay or Amazon if you’re a lipstick lover like me.
