Sunday is the new Saturday.

There’s something special about waking up on a Sunday morning – the smell of brunch, a fresh cup of coffee and usually a day of adventure ahead. They don’t usually involve trips to the salon for medi-pedi’s

Opening its doors earlier this year, I must have walked past the stylish Margaret Dabbs clinic in Cheltenham at least a dozen times or more without even realising it was there. I know, “come on, Kate, look up!” but I’m usually more wary of tripping up on the uneven Montpellier pavements and falling on my face than what lies ahead. If you’ve been to Cheltenham, you’ll know what I mean.

It was a few days before my holiday so what better time for a pamper! I was booked in for a hand and foot treatment, and oh boy did my feet need it! They were looking pretty sorry for themselves and were a far cry from being summer-ready. They were actually more ready-for-hibernation.

I was greeted with a friendly smile on arrival and made to feel relaxed straight away. I find booking treatments can sometimes be slightly overwhelming, overrated and overpriced, which is probably why this was my first salon experience in quite some time. On first inspection I was impressed, so as you can imagine I was quick to pick up my camera and have a wander around…

The clinic boasts six private treatment rooms and a gorgeous nail spa area with half a dozen hand and foot stations – perfect for a girly gathering! The products speak for itself, standing out against the minimalist backdrop – no fancy schmancy decor required… although I couldn’t help but admire the well-dressed interior.

After spending a few minutes making big decisions on which nail colour to choose, I sat back in the comfy chairs, filled out a couple of forms and enjoyed the beautiful beaming sunshine from outside. Total bliss.

Now, my visit wasn’t for a generic Mani-Pedi. No, this was a Medi-Pedi, otherwise known as a Medical Pedicure.

Did you know… Margaret Dabbs is actually the pioneer of the medical pedicure? Transforming feet to look and feel the best they can be. I suffer with hard skin so this kind invitation couldn’t have come at a better time – my feet were almost skipping into the treatment room!

The wonderful Kay, a qualified Podiatrist in the Cheltenham clinic, was an absolute gem! Throughout the process, in between chats about travel and blogging, she explained the importance of looking after your feet on a regular basis and the long lasting results it has. Any dead, dry skin and callus’ are safely surgically removed (in my experience, pain-free) and your nails are given a spruce up too, using a variety of Margaret’s luxurious range of foot care products which you can purchase before you leave.

It’s not just a case of going in and having hard skin scraped off your feet. Well it is, sort of. The procedure proves to be educational too, as the podiatrist informs you on how to maintain the condition of your feet in between visits. As life-changing as the first time may be, it’s just as important to continue getting your feet checked and treated. Of course, it’s also essential you choose a fresh coat of paint for your tootsies too – it is sandal season, after all.

I was a truly rubbish blogger and didn’t take any photos whilst I was having my treatment done (my nails were being painted whilst my feet were being treated), but trust me when I say it was a fantastic experience! In my years of visiting a chiropodist twice a year, which really has made a significant difference, this Medi-Pedi has made more of a lasting impression on my foot care routine than any other. Podiatrists can spot when a serious medical condition occurs, whilst making your feet feel fabulous at the same time. I can’t recommend the treatment enough, dare I say, I even prefer it to having my nails painted?!

Saying that though, it was a welcoming change for someone else to paint them for me. I ended up opting for a sky blue on my finger nails and a pop of pink on my toes, but ended up spending more time admiring how glowing my skin looked! They felt good as new, smelt incredible and looked like they had been given a new lease of life. Forget the boots, these feet were made for walking…

Show your feet some love and book a Margaret Dabbs Medi-Pedi toeday – just think of it as a way of thanking your feet this summer.
