One Afternoon up in the Sky, London Sky Garden

Whenever I visit London I spend most of my time running around the city, usually shopping is involved, and I always regret ending up feeling exhausted and out of pocket by the end of the day. Last week I landed back in the capital with one of my best pals to escape the countryside for a day, and for once there was just one plan – a quiet afternoon up in a place away from the hustle and bustle – the stunning Sky Garden.

It was a miserable, rainy Tuesday and the only thing I cared about was sitting down with coffee and shelter from the windy weather. Luckily we booked tickets to the zen bubble where you can just sit, watch and snap away at the most outstanding views of London – and we did that for about 2 and a half hours. Luckily the company I was in knows me well and patiently put up with my moans and groans about the weather over the course of the day, he even promised to tell me if my lashes started to fall off as we were heavily rained on (I was sporting Fleur De Force’s Simply Fleur falsies – LOVE!)

By the time we reached the Sky Garden I looked, and felt, like a drowned rat – but all of my grumbles were put aside and left down at base camp as we reached the gardens a few floors up, I suddenly came over all ‘zen’. I can appreciate why there is a booking policy, they clearly want to keep it from becoming too overcrowded and the fact it is a free space with these views is incredible. There’s something about being surrounded by plants that really calms me down, puts me at ease when I’m feeling anxious, and I suppose the glass of prosecco might have contributed too…

You can purchase drinks and snacks at the Sky Pod Bar but if you’re looking for something a little more substantial or maybe you’re taking a loved one out for dinner – then the Darwin Brasserie and Fenchurch Restaurant both have great menus to look out for. We settled for bubbles and beer before taking a wander around the garden.

With a 360 view of the city below, you may find yourself like I did just wanting to just sit and watch the world go by. It’s the perfect spot to forget about work, switch your phones off and read a good book or make conversation without the noise of traffic and tourists.
