Christmas in the Cotswolds is a magical place. With so many attractions to choose from, there really isn’t any excuse for not doing something festive with your loved ones.

Sudeley Castle is an enchanting visit for families and friends, so I suggested its Spectacle of Light show to three of my best friends for a fun get together.

We had penciled the date into our diaries to do something festive together weeks ago but hadn’t thought of anything in particular to do, so a delicious Sunday roast at the Corner Cupboard followed by a stroll around the lit-up grounds of Sudeley Castle sounded pretty perfect to us!

Lights, camera, action!

It’s a first for the historic castle and gardens to hold an after-dark experience like this and I’m certain it won’t be the last. It was stunning! They even had disco balls in the trees to create beautiful effects – a trick I’m now wanting to recreate at home…

Along the trail you’ll witness ancient trees, water features and the castle itself lit up in a rainbow of colours – best captured without flash if you’re taking photos.spectacle-of-lightspectacle-of-light

This particular spot was my favourite. It felt like a scene from a fairytale, with fairylights galore setting a romantic scene.

The girls and I stopped off for some mulled wine to help us keep warm, but they also serve delicious dinner options and hot drinks if you fancy something a little less alcoholic. We were still full up from our roast and hoped that the winter walk around the gardens would help burn off our dinner.

There is music playing in the background as you wander round the trail, which I had hoped would be more Christmassy but it’s still very fitting with the location and magic of the event.

The event is on until 23rd December with specific entry time slots from 5pm each evening, so please book ahead of your visit by visiting the website here to avoid disappointment.

I actually enjoyed myself so much, I’m going to return this weekend with other friends for another festive outing!
