You may know by now of my obsession with HomeSense. Whether it’s photo frames, cooking utensils or storage, it’s the place I usually find what I’m looking for. I have a weekend away with friends coming up so when HS got in touch and asked if I wanted to pick up some travel essentials, well it was an offer I simply couldn’t refuse!

As it’s a British beach break (< check out that tongue twister) I don’t have to pack too much but there were a couple of things I needed to pick up. HS do a brilliant range of pieces for travel as well as discounts of up to 60%, I spotted these two gorgeous suitcases as I was browsing around my local store – a chic blue and cream case for a weekend getaway and one covered in stamps that would be perfect for travelling further afield. It’s a shame I don’t need new luggage…

I actually walked around the store with a couple of makeup bags I couldn’t decide between, and then found ‘the one’ as I was queuing up to pay – one of the many reasons I love HomeSense, you spot something new around every corner. I was drawn to these Kenneth Cole toiletry bags, it’s two for the price of one!

But Kate, you have plenty of toiletry bags“, I hear you cry.

I can’t argue with that, I do have a variety of bags to stuff with bathroom and makeup products but the ones I do own are either too big or too small for a couple of days by the seaside. The large clear bag will be so handy to store larger cosmetics, while the smaller one will hold my beauty bits. Besides, you know that I can’t resist anything floral!

For me these are the essential essentials – empty containers for creams, shampoo and other liquids when you want to downsize for a short trip. I love the travel size aisle in Boots as much as the next person but next time you are about to embark on that journey to the shops, ask yourself if you really need that small bottle of shampoo and pack of makeup remover wipes.

I’m guilty of doing this on so many occasions but recently I’ve been trying to cut the spending in small but effective ways. I mentioned in my last travel post that I bought some empty pots from Boots to pour my everyday moisturiser and foundation in, saving me buying new products that I already own. This travel kit from Urban Spa includes three small pots with mini spatulas and labels in case you know, you mix up your shampoo for moisturiser…

We are staying in family accommodation during our weekend break so most necessities are covered but I picked up this towel that I can use after a shower as well as for taking it down to the pebble beach to sit on (and dry my feet off after a cheeky paddle in the sea of course).

Perhaps not essential for everybody but for an avid lover of writing, a notebook is something I like to carry around with me at all times. Whether it’s an idea for a blog post (most likely) or making a list of things to do and see on our trip, having a cute and compact writing pad to jot these things down onto is important. I had to buy this gorgeous blue leather Valentino journal, made in Italy, and you know how I feel about Italy.

HomeSense do the best range and variety of notebooks, in fact I’ve spent quite some time talking to the lovely staff members in my local store about this obsession (I have a drawer full at home) – oh, as well as our love for mugs, pens, photo frames…

Pop over to the HomeSense website for more details and for store locations.

What are your travel essentials for a weekend away? Let me know what other bits and pieces I’m missing in the comments below.

* I was kindly gifted vouchers by a PR company to pick up these items in store.  The opinions expressed are all mine and my obsession with HomeSense is real.
